Survey: Health Systems Share Their Progress in Moving to Value-Based Care

Change remains constant in healthcare today. As the industry continues to undergo transformative change and emphasize improved quality with lower total cost of care, health systems are making the shift from volume to value. While most health systems are still operating in a primarily fee-for-service environment, many are working toward a value-based care model in which the health system takes responsibility for the outcomes and wellness of the patient population.

In a recent survey of 22 systems by The Health Management Academy, leading health systems indicate that they are gradually moving toward value-based care. Historically, the pace of change has been slow to adopt value-based models, with health systems encountering a variety of challenges and barriers to success. This report covers survey findings and follow-on interviews, providing insights around the stages of progress and the challenges systems must overcome to achieve success.
